IGNOU Admission Eligibility Criteria 2026

Based on the program you choose, eligibility varies, here is a breakdown:

For Undergraduate (UG) Programs — BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc

  • Need to have completed Class 12 with valid schooling
  • Need a total of 45%–50% overall (45% is for non-general categories, 50% is general)
  • Majority of UG programs don’t have entrance exams
  • Age: most programmes have no upper age limit

For Postgraduate (PG) Programmes — MA, MCom, MBA, MCA, MSc

  • A graduation degree is required
  • Merit-based admission (graduation marks)
  • MBA requires a valid OPENMAT score (conducted by IGNOU)
  • No entrance test required for most PG courses — except MBA, and B.Ed

For Diploma & Certificate Programmes

  • Eligibility criteria have variations — some courses may require a pass in 10th standard, and some may require a pass in 12th standard

For B.Ed and BSCN (Post-Basic Nursing)

  • B.Ed: Must pass the IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam (OPENNET)

How to Complete Your Registration to IGNOU Admission 2026 – Online Procedure

The whole registration procedure for IGNOU admission is online. Just follow the below procedure:

Step 1: Open the Official Admission Page

The official admission page for all first time IGNOU admission is open here: ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. Avoid all other non-official page admissions.

Step 2: New Registration

Start by establishing a new registration. Provide your personal information: Name, Contact: Mobile and Email. Registration details will be emailed to you.

Step 3: Login & Complete Registration Form

After online login with your email and password, be careful in selecting the program as this will determine the course which is now to be filled accurately along with personal details and academic background.

Step 4: Documents

Documents to be uploaded depending on filing formats and sizes, as detailed above must be ensured before the upload is executed.

Step 5: Study Centre Selection

Term-End Examinations and assignments will be presented before the selected Regional Centre (RC) and chosen Study Centre.

Step 6 — Payment of Program Fee

Pay your program fee using any of the payment methods accepted by the university, including banking, credit, and debit cards, and UPI. Retain the payment receipt.

Step 7 — Submit and Confirmation Download

Click on Submit. Save the confirmation page. Your Enrollment Number will be generated after the verification process, which may take 2–4 weeks.

IGNOU Re-Registration 2026

Re-registration is for existing students to continue their studies with the university. Re-registration is not the same as First Time Admission to IGNOU.

  • IGNOU has launched a new re-registration facility at onlinerr.ignou.ac.in
  • Re-registration for the July 2026 session began on May 6, 2026, and ends on June 30, 2026.
  • The cost for re-registration is INR 300
  • The new re-registration facility has been launched for BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, MA, MBA, MCA, and other multi-year programs.
  • If you fail to re-register, you won’t be able to take exams and submit assignments during that year.

Steps to Check IGNOU Admission Status

You can check your application status through the official student dashboard after applying.

  • Go to the ignou.ac.in website and locate the student zone
  • Click Admission/Registration Status
  • Fill out the Enrollment Number and Program Code
  • Fill out the verification code and click submit

After processing your admission, IGNOU will send a confirmation SMS and email to your registered contact information. This usually takes 2 to 6 weeks after submission.
